Mermaid
Here is a concept i drew of the merman made out of bits and bobs that are lying around on the boat. As you can see i'v draw the son holding her up from underneath. I wanted to make her look as girly as she can with the red lip stick (red paint) and the blode locs (mankey mop), but I had to watch how i dressed her as i could not make her look to girly as the fisherman does not have many girl like objects lying around the boat.

pitch
We decided that all three of us would stand up and present our story but
Unfortunately Seb was to ill so Freddy and myself both stood up and pitched. We
decided that I would tell basis of the animation, example, going to be in 3D
and its going to be 3 minutes long and Freddy to explain the story and for me
to finish it off by explaining each characters and what there personality’s
are. From this pitch we wanted laughter and enjoyment, as this idea is a funny
comedy based story. Our feedback the next day was great. It was Green light for
our project. Myself and freddy were pretty confident that our project Hook
Line, and stinker pitch was going to pass to the next round as are main
objective was to make our audience laugh which I think we accomplished very
well.
son inspiration
we wanted the sont o be a young skinny teenager that
has no interest to the sea and would rather be back on solid ground in his own
little bubble as he doodles in his sketchbook. We come up with the idea for the
son by looking through images of the clothing company ‘Topman’. Topmans models
consisted of skinny young people with odd looking clothing, the type of
clothing with tight skinny jeans and button all the way up on their shirts.
story
The Story:
Comedy
CG-Project with 2d Elements
2-3 minutes long
Audience: 10+
The story is about a father and son out at sea, on a trip to catch fish but more importantly reform a bond that had been torn after the parents split. The story explores the growing divide between generations as technology and popular culture draw the younger generation away from continuing family tradition.
The two characters struggle to get along, both with contrasting personalities and lifestyles.
Throughout the story, the father and captain of the boat tests his son and teaches him to be honest and hard working by threatening to sacrifice him to 'The Sea Beast'.. at first the student does not listen to his dad, claiming that the sea beast is just a made up stupid thing, but at night time suspicious noises and shadows make him become paranoid and he starts to hear strange things and becomes nervous and paranoid to the point of breaking down. eventually the captain reveals that all the things that initially scared the student are normal and that the sea beast is just a joke to get him to do work... The student so re leaved to hear that it was a joke forgives his father but a slow zoom out of the boat reveals a large dark figure underneath the boat... they are not alone!
animatic still shots
me and Freddy had
to finish it off once and for all. By doing this Freddy got the models on maya
and put them in positions in which they be for the animatic, I then took the
still block images and put them onto photoshopp I then began to add the
backgrounds to the individual shots. With the expressions I previously drawn
out, I then had to go through every shot (273) and add each expression to the
characters.
Boat design.
Motion capture
For our third year project now called “Hook, Line and Stinker”, we have decided to use the university’s motion capture facility for our project. we found that motion capture would be one of the quickest ways of creating the first rough blockthrough for our project. me and freddy acted out our characters motions, so that we get to understand the characters more when we get to the final animation.
The mo-cap system we are going to use is created by Centroid and works by having 14 infrared cameras and reflective ball suits. Jens Meisner (www.digitalstages.com) who is a freelance 3D-artist and motion capture specialist is going to help us with the capture and the initial clean-up of the mo-cap data

Concepts
Freddy
and me thought it would be best to create the concepts of the main key points
that are going on through out the story. We decided that it would be best if Freddy
and myself would work on these. We had a good system on creating these by
Freddy sketching out the designs and myself to put color and shading to them. I
come up with the front title page on my own. I created this image with the use
of textured images with the opacity turned down, with this effect it gave me a
good combination when fitted with drawings I did on top. This gave the hook
line, and stinker front cover a good look alongside the other concepts. We to
get these images finished in time for the pitch in the maritime museum.
