Digital Animation Practice

the brief for our second project was given to uss. andy went over the production process and then gave us a guide plus timeline. the brief for the project......"Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes, No". strange i know but a challenge that will be interesting. it can be on what ever we like and it must be around  60-90 second story.

second year beings

for our first project we were set a to choose from pre or post production. Straight away i knew i would probably choose pre as my skills lay in that area. we was then giving a hand in lucky dip and from that we ended up with four cards which would then create a personal brief. we were given a scene, genre, artist style and character cards

scene- New York city
Genre- Family feature film
Artist style- Saul Steinberg
Character- Postman

Random selection! but i reckon i can work with this

Final Video

when producing our animatic we then went onto creatin gthe walk cycle on after effects. it took a very long time but when it was fineshed. we then created many 2D drawings of a walk cycle of a horse, an ink squirter and a woman shooting herself. we then put everything we created all together and created our title sequence.

Animatic

Here is our animatic we did. we created around 30 storyboard frames.

DADA project

We started off by each of uss giving ideas to see what we could come up with. we had ideas blasting out on paper but there wasn't any solid ground to base the sequence on.
after many meetings we evetually came up with a brilliant idea!
we decided that the only way to get an idea of what mood, pace atmosphere and aesthetics we wanted for the piece we would need to create a soundtrack to work from.

This soundtrack idea was set up ready to be started and we come to the conclusion that the soundtrack must be made from house hold appliances and just anything we could get our hands on that wasn't an actaul instrument.
using anything we could find around our kitchens we began recording any sounds that had potential in creating a beat.

It became clear from the sound track that we created, that the tempo was at a marching pace and sounded a lot like a marching group of machine like creatures.
with this in mind we decided that we wanted the animation to be based on Dada inspired creatures whose sole purpose is to take art to a destruction  factory, were it is reproduced as Dada work.
This is to reflect the distaste that Dada 'artists' for art.

few creature designs

we went straight into creating these odd designs with parts of smashed up computers and radio's. plus i travelled back home and collected a box full of bolts and screws. we wanted each of them to have their own walk and personality.
